Philosophy
The athletic program at the Westlake School is an integral part of the total educational process. While earning their degrees at the Westlake School, the primary goal of the athletic program is to offer and provide a supplemental experience to assist each student in realizing their full potential. The athletic program reflects the philosophy of the school in that the athletic program is designed to offer each student an opportunity to participate in the extended life of the school.
On the middle school level, the program is designed to be nurturing and foster quality experiences as well as skill building for all the participants. On the Junior Varsity level, the focus is concentrated towards the teaching of the fundamentals and the development of competitive skills. When a student reaches the Varsity level, the program is designed for interscholastic competition.
The overall mission of the athletic program is to teach the values of fair play, good sportsman like competition, and most important the value of physical fitness. In addition it is the mission of the athletic program is to offer fair and equal opportunities for every student in order that they may develop to their full potential and experience success in a competitive setting. After participating on an athletic team, each student will receive a quality experience that will not only improve his or her athletic skills but more importantly, will help prepare each student for the challenges and rewards in life.
